The Best Thing of the E3 2008 Media and Business Summit

The best thing that E3 ever did for the gaming media was to put an exhibition where anyone can get a hold of the games and try them out in one location.  From Spore to Dark Void to the ever lovable Rockband 2, you can find almost everything  your little gaming heart desires.  I got a chance to see people play and teach me Samba De Amigo.  This was a title that SEGA released for the Dreamcast and now they have ported it to Nintendo’s Wii system.  With elements and songs from both Samba de Amigo 1 and 2,  players will get a chance to shake their maracas till they can shake no more.  There were also other games from Disney Interactive such as the Disney Karaoke game that got PLENTY of play.  No matter what your level of skill was, anyone was able to go out on the show floor and kick some ass, sing your hear out or play like Hendrix.

ROAD TRIP!

So, Nintendo graciously allowed a shuttle service from their press conference at the Kodak Theatre in smack dab in the middle of Hollywood to the wonderful scene of the LA Convention Center.  And silly me thinking that I would be encumbered with too many things in my bag and in my hands, I forgot to bring the one thing that I always drag along with me… a jacket.  So sitting in the freezing cold of the Kodak Theatre allowed me to shiver off some calories while attending to the Nintendo press conference.  Thinking that once it was finished, I would be happily on my way to a semi-warmer climate within the sorta empty halls of the LACC.  Silly me!  The bus ride over to the convention proved to be jampacked with other media members alike mumbling to each other of their own thoughts… which I will gladly not bore you with since it basically put me to sleep.  Upon arriving at the convention center, our team was greeted with the wonder sight of a guy in the front of us with his pants falling off his butt while trying to get out of his seat.  Talk a bout something that we didn’t expect… but then again there are many things that always happen to us that we never expect. So now that we’ve finally arrived to our destination, I am glad to say that I am still hitting my head against the wall because I’m still freezing in this media room.  Well, at least once I get up and running around to my appointments I won’t be dropping dead from heat exhaustion?

Trouble at the Ramada Inn makes TME very cranky at E3

So the Ramada usually has a reputation for being a very nice and one of the classier establishments in the world.  This was not the ccase at the Wilshire location.  Supposedly a diamond in the rough, this place was a wreck and if you saw the advertisements on Hotels(dot) com, dont believe it.  We arrived into an ominous parking lot underground with no signs or direction.  And mind you it’s not that we can’t figure this stuff out but a greenhorn traveler wouldn’t.  So we paid about $114 for a room in a not so safe area so maybe we got what we paid for,  As soon as we got to the hotel lobby, things seemed to look better,  We got checked in and were told about the continental breakfast.  We hit the elevators and headed up to out room. It was  near the elevator and the vending machines.  Ok so far but how much better can it get.  As soon as we had reached the room, the piercing shrill of a fire alarm went off and then on again.   This happened several times and occupants were stumbling out of bed to the shreiking alarm.  I had decided that it was best to get our most pressing things we could not be without and headed out to the stairwell.  As we passed one of the balconies, we saw 2 full size fire trucks pull up with really good looking firemen.  More guests evacuated the building as the security staff ensured everyone was safe.. but where was the fire.  It looked like something tripped the alarm and it was faulty.  To be sure a search was done on every floor and nothing came up.

People were cranky as it is being disturbed in the middle of thier blissful sleep.  And now i gotta get up early for the morning conference.  Hopefully the sounds of Mario and the Wii wil brighten my day tomorrow
